The Soft Bombs have graced the music scene with a fresh, authentic sound that draws from rock & roll roots, yet sizzles with originality. The diversely talented four-piece band brings together sounds of both classic and contemporary rock & roll, psychedelic dance trips, worldly earth-toned beats and a touch of strung-out British Pop/Rock; all while maintaining an original style that is truly their own. As a live show, The Soft Bombs provide an “other-worldly” experience with their colorful mood-lighting, Warhol-like ambience of effects, flawless energy and a strong yet polished musicality that carries the group into a league well above your average band of musicians.
The Soft Bombs were conceived in early 2010 in the studio of guitarist and lead singer of
the band, Michael Padilla. With a handful of material originally intended for a solo album
Padilla started to record what would become The Soft Bombs self-titled debut album.
Padilla completed the record with the finding of John Lee Simpson on the bass. The duo
developed a strong steady sound driven by Padilla’s wholesome voice, lyrical talent and
the ability of his amense soundscapes through his guitar. After touring the West Coast
and New York City with a string of stand-in drummers to promote their well-received
debut album, the band returned home to begin their next project. By March of 2011,
drummer Ben Bodine joined the group as the official percussionist and another back-up
vocalist. Bodine’s preciseness and enthusiasm on the drum kit provides an energy that
gives the band their own special sort of rhythm and power. Rounding out the group in
August of 2011 was the discovery of keyboardist Ryan Brodie. His contributions through
sound is a crucial part of what gives the band their uniquely psychedelic experience.
Brodie’s live work on the keys brings a quality that reminds listeners that authentic
instrumentals are enticing. In June of 2012 Simpson was replaced by long time fan
and musician Ryan Sheridan. As the official line-up to this day, their teamwork and
perfect balance of musical creativity shine through in their new songs to come.
While songs off Embrace the Light are the highlight of their live act, new material is already being performed for what is to be their next album. In the meantime, The Soft Bombs continue to dazzle North Western crowds with their charm, their well-rounded musicianship, unforgettable lyrics, and an energy and spirit that resonate with music fans both young and old. The Soft Bombs are truly a one-of-a-kind experience.
